Pebblebrook High (Mableton, Ga.) point guard Collin Sexton, the five-star jewel of Alabama’s highly-ranked incoming class, had a huge game last night against a big-time opponent:
Collin Sexton scored 19 of his 35 points from the free throw line in the win for the Falcons (15-5, 6-1), who took over sole possession of second place in the region standings behind Westlake.
Trailing 65-63 at the end of the third period, Pebblebrook outscored Wheeler 17-12 and shot 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in the final frame. Sexton, who was 19-of-22 from the line overall, was 7-of-8 in the fourth quarter and scored Pebblebrook’s final four points of the game to help maintain the lead.
For some context, Wheeler (Marietta, GA) has three four-stars on the roster in Indiana commit Jordan Tucker, Louisville commit Darius Perry, and USC commit Jordan Usher. Considering the Tide’s woes at the foul line, the 19-22 and 7-8 down the stretch are particularly encouraging. The fact that he got to the line so frequently underscores his willingness to take the ball to the basket despite his excellent marksmanship from three-point range. He also reportedly added a couple of highlight-reel dunks for good measure.
This performance comes on the heels of an epic 53-point effort against an overmatched opponent to celebrate Senior Night:
Pebblebrook will play a rematch against Wheeler to be televised on ESPNU this coming Friday, February 3, at 4:30 pm CT. Set your DVRs accordingly.
Roll Tide.
