The CFB Blogger Awards: Nominees Part the First

Best New Blog:

Black Heart Gold Pants: It was really a toss up here on whether to vote for these guys as Best New Blog or Funniest Blog, but either way they are always hilarious and worth reading, even if they do blog about Iowa.

3rd Saturday in Blogtober: Clever title, and their ongoing effort to bring peace and cooperation between Alabama and Tennessee fans is doomed to fail admirable.

Best Community:

Bruins Nation: It took me awhile to figure it out, but the reason they have so many consistently good posts every day is that a lot of them are diaries they bumped to the main page, making the whole site just one big lump of Blue and Gold commentary from any and every fan that happens to have internet and an opinion.

Best Writing:

Dawg Sports: You gotta hand it to the Mayor; he's verbose, and every word of it is gold.

Funniest Blog:

Gump for Heisman: The Pacman Jones stuff alone deserves to win:

And while I was in the store the other day, I thought `there are some ass-sissy man-bitches running around this place.' Somebody ought to learn they ass how to grocery shop like a man. A man's man. A Pacman.

Best Analysis:

I'm nominating a single post here instead of a whole blog, The Ripple Effect:

We all realize at some point in the season every team but one is going to see their national title hopes dashed. We hoped Michigan would lose, but we wanted to be the ones to beat them. Now the rest of the conference is in a downright lousy position. Beat Michigan and you're just beating another overrated team. Lose to Michigan and you're the team that lost to the team that lost to Appalachian State.

There are a lot of people making generalizations about how this reflects on the Big Ten. It shouldn't, but the fact is it does. This makes the Big Ten look bad, and it couldn't happen at a worse time with the Big Two coming off of embarrassing bowl losses.

That was downright prescient of them, considering Michigan did, in fact, go on a pretty good run, but they'll always be "the team that lost to App State" and everyone that lost to them, be it Penn State or Florida, has an extra little bit of shame in being "the team that lost to the team that lost to App State."

Best MSM Blog:

The Rap Sheet: There's a reason why we link this guy regularly; he does an excellent job of using the blogging outlet to tip Alabama fans on various happenings before a full story can be produced, and also sharing with us quotes and anecdotes that are worth hearing but, for whatever reason, didn't make the article. Hats off to him, and hopefully he doesn't see our copious links and quotes and think "jerks are just ripping me off over there..."

No I am not.

Best Looking Blog:

U of H Football Fan Blog: The stick figure drawings in the header crack me up every time, and the rest of it, well, it just looks like a Hawaii blog.

The Job Award:

M Zone: Instead of curling up into a fetal ball after the greatest upset in the history of college football happend to their team, they attacked it with the kind of good humor we've all come to expect from the M Zone.

Best Regular Feature:

The Random Ten +5: Okay, so this one doesn't have anything to do with football, and Hey Jenny Slater isn't necessarily a football blog so much as a personal blog that talks a lot of football, but it's still one of those ideas that immediately made me think "that's a great idea, I wish I had thought of that."

Back tomorrow with the "Best Insert Conference Name Here Blog" nominees.
