[editor's note, by Todd]
I'm bumping this back up to the top of the page since it's the big story of the day.
There are a lot of rumors racing around the Internet right now that Fresno State offensive coordinator Jim McElwain has been hired as the offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama. Then there are other rumors that are saying that an offensive coordinator has been hired, but that we are uncertain as to whom.
There is no official confirmation at this point, of course, but this story does seemingly have some legs to it. Combined, at the very least, there is a lot of talk that someone has been hired.
I don't know if this story is true or not, but I figured I would give you the heads up that it is at least being floated around out there. Fresno State has called a press conference for tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. to discuss the OC position, and apparently both head coach Pat Hill and McElwain will be in attendance. That, though, tends to make you think he is staying at Fresno State, but you never know. Making matters worse, tomorrow is the first ever "Fresno State Football Appreciation Day" in the city of Fresno, and they are planning a major party at city hall and everything. Common sense largely dictates that they would not use such a platform to announce the departure of one of the top assistant coaches.
You can follow the press conference tomorrow by listening live to 1550 Sporting News Radio.
One way or another, we will know something definite regarding McElwain by lunch tomorrow.
Update [2008-1-30 10:21:39 by Todd]:
Gentry Estes has a link to a California TV Station saying "barring a last minute change of heart" McElwain is coming to Alabama. There is an "11:00 am" (I don't know what time zone he's referring to, but I can only assume it's CST since that would make it 9 o'clock out there, which is pretty reasonable for a "morning" press conference) press conference in Fresno to discuss the situation, so we should know something then.

Don't take this as "Todd is against hiring McElwain!!!11" or anything, but ever since his name was first mentioned, all I can think about is this:
I remember it because I always comment on how much I hate it when players stretch the ball into the end zone while my roommate always defends it, and while watching this game I was all "SEE! SEE! THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T STRETCH THE F****ING BALL!! YOU JUST COST YOUR TEAM THE GAME, YOU SHOWBOATING SELFISH MFER!!!111" So yeah, hopefully our receivers won't be doing that.
