Jared Mayden came to Alabama in the 2016 class, a highly regarded four-star cornerback prospect from Sachse, TX. He waited until national signing day to commit, choosing the Tide over Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia and Oregon. His recruitment was likely best known for getting Nick Saban to do the wobble.

Mayden played in four games as a freshman, which means that he would have another year of eligibility remaining had he been just a bit younger. His reserve role expanded to seven games as a sophomore, and as a junior he cracked the lineup as the sixth defensive back. Mayden would come in at safety when Alabama was in dime, moving Xavier McKinney up into the slot.
When Deionte Thompson departed for the NFL after the 2018 season, Mayden became a starter at the safety position. He led the team with four interceptions as a senior and recorded 53 tackles with three passes defensed. The 6’0”, 205 pounder will compete in the Senior Bowl before trying to impress scouts on the draft workout circuit. He should draw an invitation to the NFL Combine as well.
Best of luck to Jared as he pursues his NFL dream.
Roll Tide.
