While I haven't had time to actually do an analysis on the per drive SR, I consider 0.5 to be my minimum comfort value. A quick analysis below shows that 0.6 is the median SR on a scoring drive for us (see table below).

We only had three drives to hit that 0.5 threshold and scored on two of them. The other scoring drive (drive 3, SR = 0.333) had a QB run for no gain, an unexpected snap/fumble, followed by a 79 yard TD pass. We were chugging along in terms of number of plays per drive up to and including our 8th drive with a mean of 6 plays per drive. With a score of 24-6, about 8 minutes let in the 3rd, and this (I think stupid) running clock, if we could have just maintained that number of plays per drive Arkansas would have had a much harder time shrinking the lead. On the next three drives we were 3 and out with 1 run play and 2 clock stopping incompletions. I wish I had reliable play clock data so we could see how much time our drives were eating up before and after drive 8.

We had a season SR by Drive of 0.374 heading into this game and they held us to 0.300. This was worse than vs TAMU with 0.312 and the only worse game was Texas with 0.286.

Looking at Arkansas' SR by Drive of 0.176 would seem to say that we dominated them... and yet we only beat them by 3 points. I calculated the SR and XR for the game and it can be seen in the table below. Looking at that they had a SR of 0.267 for the game which looks better for them. I was discussing the SR for the whole game vs the SR by Drive and the discrepancy between the two with a statistician and something he mentioned was that by breaking it out by drive we are conditioning the data. This means that we have to consider Simpson's paradox (or a version of it) where we get different conclusions depending on whether we are looking at the population or dividing the data into subpopulations. This is making me question the informative value of using the SR for anything other than the entire game, especially since that was how it was originally designed to be used IIRC.

Let's talk penalties. While 5 is more than enough penalties it isn't as bad as some seem to be saying. While it's true that the two defensive penalties were at the worst possible time, they were both effort penalties. The Face Mask on Key at worst looked more like a mutual grab and the Arkansas player threw Key down by the facemask, but my video that I can step through isn't high enough definition to say what exactly happened. The last False Start was due to Burton running his mouth and our running backs not getting set because they were trying to calm him down/shut him up/whatever.
