4-Star DT Raekwon Davis Affirms Commitment To Tide

Davis' commitment was on the fence for a while as SEC-West competitors closed in.

Hailing from Meridian, MS (and courted lavishly by divisional foes,) four-star defensive tackle Raekwon Davis affirmed his commitment to Alabama last night.

This is a huge (continued) pickup for the Tide, who have seen a lot of targets abstain until NSD and have seen others back off following the departure of Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker. More importantly, Davis was a major target for Alabama's SEC West opponents in Starkville, Baton Rouge, and Oxford. LSU's Ed Orgeron particularly seems to have made an impression on Davis.

Still, the Tide won out.

"First and foremost, I would like to thank the man above," Davis posted on Twitter. "It's been an extremely long journey. So I take this time to thank all my recruiters that helped me throughout my recruitment. I appreciate all the things everyone has done for me. To coach (Ed) Orgeron, you have made a major impact on my life and I thank you for it. "Today I decided that I will spend the next 3 to 4 year(s) at the University of Alabama. Roll Tide."

AL's coverage:

Davis is Alabama's longest-running current commit, as he chose the Crimson Tide before his junior season.

That was before he emerged as a big-time prospect. The 6-foot-7, 325-pound Davis is a four-star recruit, ranked as the No. 83 player nationally and No. 5 player in a deep state of Mississippi.

Want to know why this kid is so special? The violence alone would do it, but his SPARQ-verified measurables are the cherry on top: there are not many 6'8, 314-pound NTs that run a 5.4.

Welcome to Alabama (again,) Raekwon, and Roll Tide!
